Moses
each night
hands up-
you surrender
to sleep,
lying flat back
as a pancake
you toss us a smile,
sprinkles of glee;
the lemony light
shines on your Moses basket
needy like him
you have floated in
on a high tide
just as I was drowning
in the whispering reedy grass,
your rubber ring of love
kept me afloat
buoyant and chubby
like a Hindu god
we made up,
your eyes a theatre of emotion
my heart fit to burst
everyday you awake
chestnut eyes wide-open
and smile.
